4Has Everything, But VERY BIG - RecommendedNov 25, 2005
By C. F. Hill "CFH"
I bought this knife as a gift for my son, and am rethinking giving it to him. He wanted a multi-tool knife and I wanted it to have a locking blade (he might need his fingers sometime in the future :-). This knife has all of the tools he could ever want and then some. Most interesting are the locking knife blade (VERY BIG), practical scissor, functional pliers, and the large saw blade.

Pros:
+ Has a lot of useful tools!
+ Locking blade comes razor sharp
+ Very well made
+ Sturdy

Cons:
- This is a HUGE knife - it is not a pocket knife!
- Does not come with a belt case (sold separately) :-(

This is a very useful knife!

Recommended!

5Swiss Top Quality (is there anything Swiss that isn't?)Jun 24, 2008
By Scouser
I received a small (keychain size) Swiss Army Knife as a gift and was impressed by its quality and functionality, despite the small size. However, I wanted something larger that could tackle bigger tasks and was easier to grip. After much searching (I thought I'd never get through page after page on Amazon) I decided on the Work Champ. For starters it has a locking blade-very important in my opinion. It fits the hand nicely and has a good selection of tools without being overwhelming.

The quality of finish is superb. With so many cheap knockoffs from China I'm glad that products of this caliber are still being made in their original countries. Certainly, you pay a bit more but it's worth it knowing you have the real thing. My only complaint is that it didn't come with a belt pouch-I had to order it separately from Swiss Army's website. I definitely recommend Victorinox products.

5PracticalDec 05, 2009

Just received this product a few days ago.
It is an excellent product with a solid feel. Its knife blade is way more practical than the other tools (I am specifically referring to Swiss Champ here!). Also, It contains all the tools (that are actually used) in a better size. So, if you are looking for a practical sharp locking blade with large wood saw and other tools that you would actually use and pay for, go for this. It won't let you down!

4A beast of a SAK FolderNov 26, 2009
By Kon3
It has all the essential functions of a well-rounded Victorinox multi-purpose knife.

Though it is possible to fit this into a pocket, I purchased the Swiss Army 111mm pouch with rotating clip to hold the WorkChamp. For me, the most layers for pocket carry in a Swiss Army Knife is between 3 and 4.

I would like to see the lock blade as a one-handed opening variant (ie. One Hand Trekker) with a liner lock. Also, if the bottle opener/flat bladed screwdriver was also locking (again similar to the One Hand Trekker) that would be nice and the inclusion of the sealed ball point pen.

All in all another great SAK to add to my edc rotation.

Addendum:

Also wanted to add that in order to access the two phillips screwdrivers, the pliers/scissors has to be folded out of the way first, deploy the screwdrivers, and then fold back the pliers/scissors. This is different as opposed to the SwissChamp/Explorer phillips screwdriver where one can just fold them out.

4Nice MultitoolDec 01, 2010
By KW Post
Very nice knife/multitool.

Pros

- It has a beefy locking blade.
- Nice selection of tools.
- It can be carried in a pocket: front or cargo.
- It has most of the tools you are likely to need.
- It is fairly easy to handle. I'm not a big guy and I have no problems.

Cons (at least for me)

- Pliers are more suited for splinter pulling and model pulling.
- The bottle opener/prybar is not as large as the Trekker model.
- Nail nick on the main blade should be on the opposite side IMHO.
- The spring action on the phillips bits is very strong and can snap back quickly.
- (At least for some) it is quite a hand full.

Overall

- I like this tool very much.
- I would recommend considering how you plan to use it before buying.

Alternatives

- Swiss Champ: is a good choice if you want to carry it loose in your pocket or on in a pouch.
- Champion Plus: if you can live without the pliers. Otherwise, same as the Champ.
- Spirit: better tool selection, same weight, smaller blade & file & saw.

Personal Opinion

In my case, the Swiss Champ was really not an option. I already on a Champion Plus -- which I love by the way. Getting a Champ would have been redundant. I wanted a bigger file and saw. The Work Champ fit the bill.

I also own a Spirit (great tool), a new Leatherman Wave (another great tool) and a number of other tools; including many Vics. This is a nice addition that I will add to my daily cycle. It is not for everyone. For one thing, I wear jeans, cargos, and carpenter pants every day. This allows me to suspend this bad boy from a carabiner attached to my belt loop. (This makes it easier to pocket carry it.) I would not do this with dress pants.

Also, some people may find it a bit heavy and bulky. This is not a problem for me, but neither is a Cybertool 41. Most people would be better served with a 4 layer model (like the Huntsman) or smaller model for every day carry. Most days I can get by very nicely with a Huntsman or Ranger. On the other days, it is nice to have this multitool in my collection.
