5Extraordinary.Jan 27, 2005
By Wesley L. Janssen
This is extraordinary. The pocket knife yes, but also the fact that I am writing a review in praise of it. I'm a thought guy not a thing guy; I review books, typically philosophical ones. But this is a thing fit for a philosopher if ever there was one.

Circumstances have conspired to make me spend some time contemplating my Swiss Army Knife. I recently lost mine. It was a dark day. I've had this knife in my pocket for something like 25 years and use it daily. Yes, a person might get along fine without this knife, but why would they? Here's a quick, although partial, inventory: The saw comes in handy for landscaping and plumbing work (cuts PVC and ABS pipe better than a hack saw does) and for gardening (pruning limbs up to 1.75 inch diameter or more). Two knives, two screw drivers, an awl/punch/drill, a can opener, bottle opener, even a toothpick. The scissors are excellent for personal grooming (trimming finger nails and nose hairs). The steel is highest quality and holds sharp edges for years, even under constant use.
There's simply nothing like it: compact, intensely functional, inexpensive, dependable high quality. It'll be your inanimate buddy; you'll use it at home, at work, in the glorious wilderness, should you be fortunate enough to find yourself there. If you want to endear yourself to some philosopher (or perhaps even an ignorant numbskull), or maybe a guy with a nose hair problem, here's the perfect gift.
Other people probably make a 'similar' product but don't waste your money on a knock-off, wannabe or Johnny-come-lately; this knife is a legend for every good reason. The only potential drawback cannot be blamed on the knife itself -- if you've forgotten it's in your pocket you will have it rudely confiscated before you can board a commercial airliner, this we must blame on a world sadly deficient in good philosophy.
It's a beautiful thing. I found mine a few days after I lost it. My nails are clipped and life is good.

5Best of the large Swiss Army knivesJan 24, 2003
By G. Powell
This knife is my favorite of all the Victorinox army knives. It has the most useful tools, basic blades, the corkscrew, the sizzors, the awl (with hole for sewing). You can get the little eye glass screw driver and stow it in the corkscrew. The other larger knives IMO are too bulky and have tools which really aren't up to any major hard work. Pruning knives for trees, fish scalers, magnifiing glasses etc. for instance. So if you are going swiss army this is the best of the bunch. Price/size/utility, its a good deal.

5takes a beating and just keeps on goingJun 21, 2005

This model Swiss Army knife is perhapes the most versital. Just the right number of tools in a fairly compact package. My father has carried one for more than 30 years and it just now starting to show signs of wear. He's carried it from job site to camp site and everywhere inbetween. Dishing out all the use and abuse it'll take along the way. That lifetime of use, without brakeage or malfuntion is the chief reason why I carry one now. If your looking to buy a Swiss Army knife for yourself or as a gift, this is the one, hands down.

5Wonderful knife but I suggest the Camper for a thinner alternativeDec 20, 2005
By Dennig Glasser
I carried this particular knife for years before it was stolen. When I replaced it I did not realize the vast number of models Victorinox made. I inadvertantly bought the Camper. It has the saw but not the scissors or the hook thing. But it has everything else that is on the Huntsman, including the saw.

It is enough thinner that it made carrying it in my pocket everyday is a LOT more comfortable. I do not miss the scissors much, though they are very cool. I do have a small (SAK)knife that has the scissors. It goes in my shaving kit when I travel. But the camper has the same blades and openers and it has the saw. The saw is awsome.
For every day comfort with extreme versatility, I recomend the Camper above this knife.

5Wonderful Knife!Oct 30, 2001
By F. Iacobelli "VIEWPROF"
This is my favorite swiss army knife because it has everything you need without the weight. Its perfect to keep in your pocket or put in the glove box of your car. The only negative thing I can say about this knife is that there are no locking blades. Besides that, its a perfect buy. Nothing will rust, and the metal used is very high stainless quality. You cant wash swiss army knives in the dishwasher anymore because they dont use the same glue to bind the plastic to the metal, if you do the plastic will pop off. I suggest running the knife under cold water. Compared to any leatherman knife this is a better buy. I own the wave, and honestly this is a higher quality knife, theres no way it will fall apart!
