5Great All-around KnifeJun 02, 2009
By JackofAllTrades "JackofAllTrades"
I have owned the Victorinox Hercules for several years (5?) and still reach for it pretty often. This is definitely a larger, full-sized version of the SAK. I owned several Tinkers and Deluxe Tinkers prior to this one and loved them all. I moved up to the Hercules after loosing my Deluxe Tinker. My reason for buying over another DT was the perfect selection of tools for my regular adventures (hunting, fishing, camping, etc) plus the added benefit of a locking blade.

I'd agree with some of the other reviews that this is definitely not an everyday knife (for most anyway) since it is considerably larger than regular SAK's. I nearly always carry it in a belt pouch which doesn't bother me.

The only shortcomings, if any, are the lack of a small blade and, when compared to a Leatherman for instance, a relatively small pliers. Since I primarily use the Hercules on treking adventures I don't mind this, but it does often prevent me from choosing it over a mult-tool when working closer to home.

In short, this is the premier SAK for outdoor adventures in my opinion. Well built, great tool selection, locking blade, and not overloaded with heavy options I don't need. Oh yeah, it looks pretty cool too. Buy it and enjoy.

5A Proper Size SAKApr 10, 2009
By D. Low
The Victorinox Hercules model has all the tools in the more common smaller size models that I need but in the proper size. The larger size of tools such as the scissors makes this knife much more useful and easier to use. I get more leverage from the longer scissor handles when cutting out something heavier than paper. The larger size also makes for a better handle when using the knife blade. The quality is excellent as expected.

5Useful tools...but quite heavy.Oct 09, 2007
By Justin Hoch
I really like this Victorinox Hercules. I bought it to replace a smaller Victorinox Swiss Army Deluxe Tinker (which I forgot to put in my checked baggage, and thus had confiscated at the security check at the airport...fun!). I like the features and the item is solidly built. Working as a handyman, I keep it in one of my leg cargo pockets and use it quite extensively for a variety of purposes - light plumbing, opening packaging, working with screws, etc. I generally have it on me at all times, just because I find that I come across uses regularly.

I was somewhat surprised how much bigger it was than my previous tool. I didn't check the dimensions on it when I bought it, just assuming it would be about the same. Turns out it is noticeably longer and much heftier than the Deluxe Tinker. While it's not a big problem for me, I was a little disappointed. Since I keep it on me all the time, it has a tendency to feel cumbersome and has resulted in me not carrying it in my pocket as much, or having to move it from pocket to pocket so I don't get a numb spot on my leg from the repeated banging as I walk.

All in all, it's a good item and I'm glad I have it.

5the swiss masterpieceAug 02, 2010

I had many knives my entire life and I always wanted one that had many gadgets and one that gave me protection. I have about 4 swiss knives and one hunting knife. I would trade all of them for my new hercules swiss. It has all , no more than you could ever want from a knife. It is very useful and well crafted and it also makes you feel safe. I spent 2 weeks looking for a good swiss and found the hercules. I searched for the best price. The lowest I could find was $80. I was about to purchase it because I spent so long searching for the best price. But then I saw it on amazon for this cheap price. About $50 is the dream price. I amvery stisfied with my purchase and I love this brilliant knife.

4Nice item. Somewhat larger than a standard Swiss Army knife.Oct 17, 2008
By Colm Flynn "adovelikeboy"
Bigger, with a locking blade - that's what I wanted from this. It's heavier too - not really an everyday pocket knife, but a good backpacking knife.

I yet don't know if it's any more durable than the smaller Swiss Army knives which I find tend to lose their red siding pieces.
