Handy Knife with all the EssentialsSep 11, 2005
By Brett J. Millan
"Anthro1992"
At my first full-time job all employees were required to carry a pocket knife or box-cutter in case customers wanted something that was still in the box. At that point, I felt that I needed something more "trendy" than a box cutter.
I bought my first true Swiss Army knife. I had had others pocket knives before, but they were all imitations, not true Swiss Army Knives. It was a simple two blade Victorinox, but it served its purpose.
Then, I started looking at a Victorinox catalog and I saw the Electrician. Every once in a while I would use the small blade in my original Victorinox, but it just didn't seem to be as useful as it could be. The Electrician changed my mind. The smaller blade is excellent. I have found that it stays sharper than the main blade and when I am working in tight environments, it it much more stable than other model's small blades.
Everytime I pull out my knife people look at it and ask if it is a Swiss Army because they have never seen one with an all metallic exterior. I hand it over with pride (while keeping an eye on them so they won't get hurt or steal it!).
Actually, my current Electrician knife is the second I buy. I gave the first one away to some road-side mechanics who helped my father, my wife, and me get my dad's car working after it broke down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. They wouldn't take any money for their work, but they accepted my knife when I offered it to them for their service.
If you need a nice slim knife (without the infamous corkscrew), then this is the knife for you.
I don't leave home without it (well, except when I go on a plane, and then I pack it in my suitcase).

Bushcrafters take note...Nov 28, 2011

"be prepared...two is one and one is none"
First off, I'm not an electrician, I just picked up this knife awhile back because I was looking for a new every day carry and I liked the features...plus I know how solid these Victorinox tools are built. I'm an avid hiker/backpacker/bushcrafter and this little gem is ALWAYS in my pocket anytime I head into the woods. The main blade itself is nice and strong, extremely sturdy. It's sharp, it holds an edge very well, and it's a piece of cake to sharpen to a razors edge...it's what I use as a back-up to my Condor Tool and Knife Bushlore, but I have absolutely no doubt that this is a blade I could trust my life with if the situation should ever arise. The reamer is amazingly strong and sharp and it's also a fantastic scraper for use on a firesteel...it's a blade I use in the woods on a daily basis, very useful. Also, the wire scraper on the incredibly sharp and sturdy sheepsfoot blade works great for scraping bark and putting sharp points or notches on sticks of all sorts. If you're an avid hiker like myself, and want a useful tool to use as a light, functional, and incredibly well built EDC...you absolutely CANNOT go wrong with this pocket knife. If you're thinking about it, just buy it...you won't be sorry.

Better than Soldier for EDCJul 12, 2011
By True West The title says it all: the Electrician is essentials-only like the Soldier, except that it replaces the can opener (least/never used by me for everyday carry) with a small, very sturdy sheepsfoot blade with wire cutter/scraper at the base. I don't use it for wiring but it is highly versatile: wire cutter works well on nylon string or cord, its straight blade is excellent for finer scoring (e.g., cutting out a newspaper article), and its tip is well suited for tougher or more abrasive jobs like cutting cardboard or synthetics (e.g., clamshell plastics) than the main blade tip, which can be reserved for finer or normal chores. Of course, the Alox handles are bombproof and secure in hand, and make for a slightly lighter, slimmer package.

sharpNov 15, 2011
By gab This knife is super durable due to the alox handles. t is also unique because most knives dont' have the rimer or the shorter blade.
