Hilariously RomanticNov 20, 2000
By K. Morgan I absolutely love the way Debbie Macomber takes ordinary people and circumstances and turns them into hours of entertainment. This Matter of Marriage is the story of Hallie. A woman approaching the big three-o who is looking for a husband and father of her future children. Enter the newly-divorced next door neighbor. This book had me laughing out loud. The antics of Hallie in her search for a husband were hysterical. And the dates she went on were so funny. And I absolutely loved the titles of the chapters. It was like watching an episode of Frasier only in print. Debbie Macomber has a way of taking everyday life and writing about it in a way that is entertaining and heartwarming. This is romance with people that could possibly be living next door to you. I can't say enough about this book or Ms. Macomber. Both are delightful. This is definitely a must read.... Warning: Be prepared to laugh!!!

a predictable yet entertaining quick summer read...Jul 20, 2005
By caradee okay. so i don't give it five stars. that's because i knew what was going to happen from the moment steve moved in next door to hallie, and i was a bit annoyed when the story dragged on. however, some of hallie's dates were absolutely hysterical and i found myself rereading these encounters aloud to my husband so we both had a good laugh. unfortunately, we know that there are men out there similar to those who hallie encounters. the moral is a good one. you'll have to kiss a lot of toads before you find your prince... don't settle... hold out for mr. right.

A prize! A prize!Mar 17, 2001
By Terri O'Hanlon I listened to the audio of this book and have to say two things: First, it is a six-star story. It's funny and fun, with a hanky needed toward the end. Story details aren't really necessary -- it's a wonderful example of Debbie Macomber's work. Basically, two people who live next door to each other take the long way around to discover that they are perfect for each other. They start out as friends, and discover love along the way. The second thing is that I have listened to a vast collection of audio books while driving to and from work over the years and have found NONE read better than Paula Parker read this one. The young children in the story are a key element, and her voices for the characters are perfect. You will enjoy this story and its presentation. Highly recommended.

I work at a book store and happened upon Debbie Macomber's books by accident. I've read just about everything she has written and really love her books. I love that they're clean and not there isn't any "smut" in them. They are about real people that you wish you could meet. This Matter of Marriage is one of my favorite books. I came across it because I wanted to read some of Debbie's older books. It made me laugh so much and I wanted to read it again. I want to recommend it to as many customers as I can. I'm 30 and single so I can relate to the story. It was just a sweet story of finding real love and not just lust. The characters build a real relationship.I would really recommend this book to anyone who loves Debbie Macomber books and anyone looking for a new author. She is one of the best authors out there in the romance genre. I always look forward to reading more of her books.
