5This radio is the best there isAug 15, 2010
I have been a SWL (shortwave listener) for over 20 years. I've used everything from expensive HF transceivers to cheap radios in department stores - to listen to news broadcasts near and far. This radio is king of the hill, hands-down. Buy it.

5great radioAug 14, 2010
I lived in "bush" Alaska for many years and shortwave radio was my basic human contact. The radio I used in those days was about 4 times the size of this one and no more capable. I wish I'd had this one back then.

4Good for a portable SW radio.Aug 12, 2010
I had the previous Sony model for over 20 years. It was very reliable but I did have to glue in the heavy ferrite internal antenna and solder its connections a couple of times after various falls. After it fell one too many times I replaced it with the GR.
The greatest improvement is in battery life. It seems to last at least three times as long with a set of rechargeable MHs than the earlier model. Other improvements include a neat way to organize the presets and separate power and lock switches (maybe the extra power drain was from the early model's propensity to spontaneously power on at odd times). In general, its more than I expect in a smallish portable receiver.

5An excellent receiver, full featured.Aug 09, 2010
This receiver offers great performance at a very modest price. Dual conversion, synchronous detection, synthesized PLL; what's not to like?

4New to wavebandJul 24, 2010
Overall, this is a good product thus far. However, I am new to waveband radio so there will be a learning curve to use his radio.
