Useful...Aug 03, 2008
By Chary The chamber cover and spare battery come in handy for quick changing during a shoot - despite the fact that the D3 seems to last forever on a charge!

And good shooting. If you need to be ready for your camera to fail at the worst time, this little guy is your friend. Sure, it doesn't take long to switch out one of the EL4's, but you'll save precious seconds, and at weddings and other occasions that won't wait for you, this could be the difference between getting the shot and having folks wonder why they heck they're paying you, anyway...
One more thing: these things are light. If you're anyplace that's busy, like a restaurant or dance, you could get bumped while trying to change it from one battery to the next. It goes skittering across the floor, under the clumsy feet of Uncle Pauly, who steps on it, crushing it flat...and now you have a really nice $4000 paperweight in your hands instead of a camera.
Extreme, I know...but weird things happen at weddings and receptions, and I've seen stranger stuff than that.
Having an extra one around is just a good idea. Mine has saved my butt on more than one shoot. You won't be sorry you've got one, promise.
The part that holds the EN-EL4 battery in your camera.May 21, 2011
By Karl This is what you need for the Bl-4 battery in order for it to go into your D3S, it's the little part that fits on the end and locks it in place.

Yup, this appears to be the real thing. I can't tell the difference between this and the original one off of my D3. I understand that the D3 is different from any previous Nikon, so DON't buy it for any other camera.
As I wanted to have two ENEL-4a batteries pre-mounted to a door, I needed to buy one for the extra battery. The two battery cover doors are indistinguishable.
