470plus10 reviewNov 30, 2007
By B. Jennings "quality buyer"
this pack is well made, not to heavy for all the gear i carry, i am not a minimum carry backpacker. I packed a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, small stove and fuel canister, small lantern, full mess kit, an extra fleece jacket, gloves, small radio, two one liter canteens(military), rain poncho, under armor top and bottom, first aid kit, compass,a eurika solo tent, camp size saw, small flashlight, boonie hat,and i still have room to spare! It has multiple tie downs and compression straps to keep large loads stable. it also has a full size built in raincover that will cover the whole load nicely. the top comes off to form a fanny pack but i havent used that yet. I would recommend this pack for people like me who travel with a lot of gear.

5Great Backpack on a BudgetJun 08, 2008
By Nate Groshan
I took this backpack on a camping trip to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park a couple weeks ago. Overall, I thought it was a very good pack for under $100 and would recommend it to any guy(it may be a bit large for women). Unfortunately, It didn't get as much use as I would have liked, but I did get it out for an 18 mile hike one day with about 30lbs of gear to see how it felt. The belt worked really well, it did a good job of transferring the weight to the hips (although, I wouldn't recommend this pack if your waist is less than 32" as I had to tighten the straps almost as far as they could go to fit me). the pack has plenty of straps for compression and you can also use the straps to very easily shift the the weight to your hips or your shoulders without stopping. It can also be adjusted for your height so it should work for most people(I'm 6'2" and and fit me fine. it looks like it should work good for a shorter person too. It poured on me for about an hour while hiking and the rain cover kept the pack completely dry. Though,I think the water would have begun to soak through if the rain had lasted much longer. It has good storage capacity as long as your not the type that needs to bring all the comforts of home with you. The fact that you can take the top off and use it as a day pack is also very nice feature. I could fit a 32 oz water bottle, several energy bars, a bag of trail mix, and a knife into the thing with room to spare. I don't think you could find a better pack than this for under $100 dollars and it should be comparable to most any pack under $200.

4Good pack for the moneyNov 19, 2009
By Phoenix Sylph "foodie & pet professional"
I have beaten up this pack over the past three years and it keeps going strong. There's ample padding and adjusting the pack in case someone else wants to borrow it is easy. I have crammed 50 pounds in the pack and carried it with minimal pain / strain on my body. It even stayed on me without ripping during a recent 'descent' (read: fall) down a mountain!

This pack is ideal for first-time backpackers looking for something with a lot of bang for the buck - and the ability to make adjustments on those first few trips. I love it so much that I'm giving my brother one for Christmas.

I got this pack with a sleeping bag (in a package deal) that was rated as ultralight. Others might have difficulty jamming a sleeping bag into the lower compartment, but with the pack's flexibility, you can find other ways to swap equipment around until you get it just right.

5Great PackApr 17, 2009

I've taken this back through Europe, Africa and a trek into the heart of the grand canyon. No rips, tears or anything of the sort.
