No problem with registration or repairDec 16, 2007

I had no problem registering the iPod on line, even though I bought it from Amazon. The registration does require filling out an online form and choosing an "Apple ID", but the defaults are set NOT to send any advertising emails. etc. I did have an opportunity to use the AppleCare warranty about a year after buying my Nano (battery didn't hold charge). The telephone call did take about 12 minutes on hold (daytime hours), but the tech rep offered either to send me a return box (free shipping), or I could take the Nano to an Apple store and exchange it. My closest Apple store is a tank of gas, so I exchanged by mail. The box came in 2 days, and the Nano was returned within a week. I can't tell whether it was the same unit or a refurb, but it was in pristine condition. My experience isn't unique; Consumer Reports regularly lists AppleCare as the best tech support in the electronics industry.

Great protection ... pain in the rear to register ...Oct 01, 2007
By kre8iv1 I bought (2) 2nd generation iPod Nano's, and (2) AppleCare Protection plans (ACPP).
Amazon's price for the ACPP's was GREAT!
APPLE's registration process was NOT.
I could NOT register either iPod online. Both produced error messages and I had to call Apple directly. Both calls lasted at LEAST 20 minutes each.
For one iPod, I actually had to fax them my receipt because the item had been on the SELLER'S shelf for over 90 days and Apple had to verify that I had actually purchased it legally.
For the other iPod, I purchased it DIRECTLY FROM APPLE as a refurbished unit, and I STILL had to call them to register it! Seems that even though the serial number displayed on the screen and etched onto the back of the unit matched each other, neither one of those matched the one on the Apple invoice!
I know this entire process was set up to prevent theft/bootlegging, however it is just annoying and time consuming for me, the true purchaser.
Let's hope I NEVER have to call Apple to actually utilize one of them!!!!
NOTE: on 11/8/08 I DID have to utilize my ACPP because my one iPod battery was not charging properly. I walked into my local Apple store at my scheduled appointment time with a copy of my ACPP and I walked out 5 minutes later with a replacement iPod. No problems, no questions, everything was easy and quick. I'm glad to know that my initial difficulties with registering my 2 iPod's were redeemed with the ease of replacement at the store! When I buy a new iPod I will be back to get another ACPP on Amazon.
Thank you Apple, and thank you Amazon!

Great protection for those who are hard on their ipodsApr 20, 2009

My daughter's ipod nano's warranty was running out and I got an email from Apple themselves offering me the extended warranty. I must say I jumped on the offer because my daughter is pretty hard on her ipod but after comparing the price on Apple's website and then again on Amazon, I decided to go with Amazon. The warranty in itself is just what you would get when you first purchased your ipod but for another extra year. It's up to you whether you think it's worth it or not.

Good protection but not truely 2 years!Feb 21, 2009

Two things to note. Yes, you get two years but not if you bought the iPod from Amazon. According to Apple, they base the warranty date on when Apple sold it to Amazon as the purchase date. So if Amazon got it on Dec 14, 2008 and you did not buy it until February 14, 2009, your two years began on Dec 14 but you would be good until Dec 14, 2010 when purchasing the APP.
Another thing. Do you live in North Carolina? If so, forget trying to register the warranty online. It won't let you. This is because Apple has a different warranty service for North Carolina residents. You must call 1-800-APL-CARE and perform a voice registration. I bought four warranties from Apple for the two Nano 4G's and two Touch 2G's that I bought from Amazon. Though I only lost a few days warranty on three of them due to high Christmas demand, I did lose 4 weeks on my 16GB Touch because it was sitting on the shelf at Amazon.

Only 2 yearsJan 27, 2009
By W. Clemens AppleCare for their computers extends the warranty to 3 years, but the AppleCare for the iPod only extends the warranty to 2 years. I guess it still worth the money for the peace of mind of protection. I had no issues registering it online.
